REVIEW OF OUR STAY:

Since we live in Southern California, my wife, 2 kids and I wanted to get away somewhere easy and local over Labor Day weekend. We chose The Four Seasons Hotel Westlake Village – it is located in the northern suburb of Westlake Village, California. The town at the foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains sits between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara, just north of the beaches and wine country of Malibu. Outdoor activities in the area include some of the world’s finest hiking and biking trails.

We arrived at the hotel and found the self-parking easy to access. The hotel has valet available and Tesla Charging stations for complimentary use if needed.

Walking into the beautifully designed lobby, we knew immediately that we were at a 5 Star Resort – all employees were extremely welcoming and everything was incredibly clean and sparkling. Since we travelled there during Covid-19 times, we were impressed with the changes and the procedures which we later learned the Four Seasons has termed “LEAD WITH CARE”. Upon arrival, there was an advanced screening procedure that included temperature checking. We noticed all employees and the guests were wearing masks around the hotel.

We were checked-in by Christina at the front desk. Christina was so friendly and made the check-in process simple and easy. The Assistant Director of Rooms, Lizardo, came to introduce himself as well, and we were made to feel very special. We were given clear directions on how to find our suite and also useful information about the property and area. Also, we were informed about the Four Seasons App, which I promptly downloaded. We have stayed at major hotel brands and small boutique hotels and have not seen this type of functionality and chat service while staying at a hotel. It was the most user-friendly way to ask questions, request items, book reservations and anything else we needed. Best of all, it wasn’t a Chat-Bot, but a live human answering and assisting with the most professional and friendly responses!

When we got to the suite, all of us were amazed! The Waterfall Suite is exactly as described on the website, but even better in person. When you walk in, there is an entrance hall, with a guest powder room which lead to the living room and dining area with a bar. The bedroom is separated by a door and has its own full beautiful bathroom with marble countertops and perfectly equipped. The suite was decorated perfectly – the hotel didn’t seem to cut corners – high-end appliances , including a Nespresso machine (When hotels provide coffee in room, it’s usually a no name brand or cheap coffee machine), Bose bluetooth speaker and 2 Big-screen Samsung LED TVs (one in bedroom , one in living-room) and another smaller Samsung TV in the bathroom. In the room, my son and daughter both received a welcome amenity stuffed animal which was really thoughtful. The hotel also provided adult-sized and child-sized bathrobes and slippers. The toiletries including soaps, shampoos, body lotions, etc. were also outstanding high-end products.

The furniture was chosen well: nice sized, comfortable couch, which housekeeping turned into a bed at night. The tables , desk and chairs were all what you would expect in a 5-Star Hotel or Multimillion dollar home. The bed was definitely one of the most comfortable beds I have slept in a while – it was plush and we were offered a variety of pillow choices. My kids loved the motorized window treatments/curtains that could be opened and closed with a touch of the button. Seeing the waterfalls and the Santa Monica Mountains outside the huge windows were definitely an added bonus.

There is definitely no shortage of activities for families traveling together to do. There is an activity lawn that offers a variety of games including mini-golf, ultimate frisbee and soccer. In addition, the hotel features a Teens room and a kids room, which the kids loved. They are game rooms with video arcades, Microsoft XBOX, pool and ping-pong tables, and foosball and air hockey tables. The kids could have easily spent all day there!

The Four Seasons Westlake features two large pools: a 50-foot indoor family pool with a full-length skylight and an adults-only (18+ years old) Serenity Pool located in the gardens of the spa area. Since the indoor pool was temporarily closed during Covid-19, we were able to use the Serenity pool with the kids in the mornings, which they loved. Later, we thoroughly enjoyed the peaceful and serene atmosphere of the Serenity Pool during the adult only time. The Serenity Pool features both poolside dining and poolside attendants to provide drinks and treats. We had very tasty Mojitos and Margaritas Margaritas and really enjoyed relaxing and cooling off by the pool. Private rental cabanas at the Serenity Pool are equipped with flat-screen televisions, lounge chairs and/or outdoor huge beds, cooling fans and private bars.

For those that still want to work out while on vacation, the Four Seasons Westlake offers a huge 24-hour fitness center at the Four Seasons Westlake overlooking the Waterfall Lawn. Featuring private lockers, saunas and steam showers, and a vast of array of fitness equipment including cardiovascular and weight-training machines. The gym also offers a yoga studio and several complimentary fitness classes. Since there were restrictions on having workout equipment all inside at this time, they did a phenomenal job setting up the equipment outside with views of the beautiful outdoors and waterfalls.

The food /dining scene at this hotel is impressive. For dinner, we were deciding between Onyx and Coin & Candor. We actually landed up ordering takeout from both as our kids wanted to eat in the room and watch the Playoffs basketball game going on that night. The food was outstanding – sushi from Onyx was fresh, tasty and had some very creative sushi rolls. Coin & Candor was equally impressive with the highlights being the Red Fife Sourdough bread (probably the best I have ever tasted) , Charcuterie and Cheese board and the Baja California Red Snapper. Stir was a perfect place to grab an incredibly tasty coffee and gelato, highly recommend as well.

Overall, this was absolutely one of the best hotel stays in a long time in a Luxury Suite – especially the Waterfall Suite. Everything was flawless including the cleanliness of the hotel, accommodating service of all the staff, to the beautiful well kept grounds and tranquil pool. Will definitely be going back to the Four Seasons Westlake Village!
