An Estate Oceanfront Two Bedroom Suite, a family wedding weekend, and an oceanfront patio we did not want to leave.
We drove down to Oceanside for a family wedding weekend with my wife and our two kids, and booked The Seabird Ocean Resort, a Hyatt property sitting right on the sand next to the Oceanside Pier. If you have not been to Oceanside in a few years, it is not the town you remember. The beachfront around the pier has been completely revitalized, with The Seabird and its sister resort Mission Pacific anchoring a walkable stretch of restaurants, coffee shops and bars. It feels polished and lively without losing the laid back surf town character that made it fun in the first place.
The location is the other big win. Oceanside sits right between Los Angeles and San Diego, so it is an easy drive from either city, and Carlsbad, Del Mar and La Jolla are a short hop down the coast. For a wedding weekend with family coming in from different directions, it could not have been more central. Here is the full breakdown of the suite, the service, and where we ate.
Accommodations:
ESTATE OCEANFRONT TWO BEDROOM SUITE
- Upgraded on arrival to the Estate Oceanfront Two Bedroom Suite
- Roughly 1,241 square feet of space for the whole family
- Two separate bedrooms: one king and one with two queens, so the kids had their own room
- Two full bathrooms, which on a wedding day is a game changer
- Large furnished oceanfront patio looking straight out at the Pacific
Room Features:
- King bed in the primary bedroom plus two queens in the second bedroom
- Separate living area for the family to spread out
- Cozy reading nook
- Direct ocean views from the living space and patio
- Steps from the beach and the Oceanside Pier
The Oceanfront Patio:
The oceanfront patio was the highlight of the entire stay. It is huge, fully furnished and looks right out over the water, and it became our home base between wedding events. Coffee in the morning, getting ready in the afternoon, and winding down after the reception, we spent as much time out there as we did inside. If you book this suite, plan on living on that patio.
Check-In and Service:
Front desk check-in was quick and easy, which matters a lot when you roll up with two kids and a car full of wedding clothes. The service stayed that way all weekend. Every staff member we dealt with was friendly, on top of things and genuinely happy to help. It is the kind of service that makes a resort feel a level above its peers, and it is a big part of why this stay worked so well.
Lunch at Piper:
Piper is The Seabird’s California restaurant, a bright, airy space just off the beach. Between the four of us we ordered the fish and chips, burgers, the grilled chicken sandwich and the tomato soup, and there was not a miss on the table. Save room for dessert. The desserts were amazing, and the kids are still talking about them.
Breakfast at Mission Pacific:
One of the best parts of staying at The Seabird is that its sister resort, Mission Pacific, is just across the street, so you effectively get two resorts’ worth of restaurants. We grabbed breakfast at the café, and the lattes were amazing, easily some of the best we have had at a resort. We also ordered the avocado toast, egg breakfasts and the barbacoa burrito, which was the sleeper hit of the morning. It is an easy, casual spot to fuel up before a day at the beach or, in our case, a wedding.
Fire Pits at The Shore Room:
The Shore Room is The Seabird’s oceanfront bar and lounge, and it is the place to be once the sun starts to drop. Grab a seat around one of the fire pits with a cocktail, listen to the waves and watch the sky change color over the Pacific. It is relaxed enough for the whole family early in the evening and a perfect nightcap spot after the kids are in bed.
The Rooftop Bar at Mission Pacific:
Make time to walk across the street to Mission Pacific and head up to The Rooftop Bar. The views stretch over the beach, the pier and the coastline, and it is one of the best spots in Oceanside for a sunset drink. Staying at The Seabird puts it a couple of minutes away on foot, which makes it an easy add to any evening.
The Verdict:
The Seabird is one of the best family friendly luxury stays in Southern California right now. Easy check-in, service that never missed, great food at both resorts (do not skip the desserts at Piper or the lattes at Mission Pacific), and an Estate Oceanfront Two Bedroom Suite with a patio that made the whole weekend. Two bedrooms and two bathrooms is the ideal setup for a family of four, and the location puts the best of the North County coast within easy reach. Oceanside has earned its spot on the luxury travel map, and The Seabird is the reason to go. We would book this exact suite again without hesitation.
